The X47R name is synonymous with proven and reliable power, with over 1000 examples supplied and or fitted and remapped on the Fiesta St180 the brand has proven itself worldwide.
At Pumaspeed we like to develop and progress on our own cars. After the recent install of the SYVECS ECU and subsequent tune and Track Day work we simply had to move past the 340bhp mark the stock turbo was topped out at and move forward with the proven method of adding extra flow with the cutting edge X47R Hybrid turbo.
What did we want our X47R Turbo to achieve ?
A very simple answer indeed, 400bhp and not lose the quickspooling charateristics the car really thrives on.
What internals did we want the X47R to have ?
A Ball Bearing core not simple journal Hybrid System was the real goal for our new unit.
Ball Bearing cores produce spool earlier than Journal Bearings and they tend to be more reliable and have a longer lifespan at high load.
A Perfect Compressor to Exhaust Turbine Balance was also very important to stop the all important side thrust load.
Did we achieve our goals? 100% yes, the resulting unit took a huge amount of research to build but looking into some WRC units it was quickly realised that with some very specific CNC machine work that an amazing IHI WRC spec core with all the correct oil and water connections could be transplanted directly into the centre of the OE Yaris structure. So this unit has all the strength and durability of a true motorsport unit built in as standard, what a real bonus this was from the word go.
