The New R-Sport Direct Fit Intercooler for the Fiesta 1.0 Turbo has arrived ar Pumaspeed Performance Tuning.
Designed specifically for use in fast road and track applications we believe the new unit will lead on Power and Performance and is the Ultimate High Flow Intercooler kit.

The R-Sport Intercooler has been designed with Quality and Performance as its major goals.
We have reduced flow restrictions by using only 45 degree bends not 90 degrees
We have maximized flow capacity by adding a huge 55mm x 500mm wide core.
Intercooler pipework and Unique CAD State of the art Low Volume Tapered end tank design limit internal volumes to minimise turbo lag.

Why Vertical Flow Intercooler?
There are 2 very important reasons.
Space and Efficiency.   (Bigger is not always the better)

There is very little space for any intercooler at the front of the 1.0 EcoBoost Fiesta so the design has to have a good cross-section area to flow and must use that space to cool as efficiently as possible.
The traditional route would be to flow one way accross the top and then flow the other way accross the bottom.
This way of cooling results in far greater restrictions due to the total length of the cooler being just over 1 metre long and the cross-section flow area being small very typically 60mm x 200mm (120cm2).
The vertical flow cooler type has a cross-sectional flow area of 55mm x 500mm (275cm2)


The long tapered end tanks and huge 55mm x 500mm cross section area result in virtually zero flow loss and 'long air in tube' times which makes a massive difference to charge temperatures and pressure drop.
As long  tubes give a higher  pressure drop and as most of the cooling is done in the first 5 inches of the tube we make the tube length quite short at 9 inches.
The results are very impressive, torque leaps up and power at the very top end is raised significantly.

Why does my EcoBoost need an Intercooler?
The standard Fiesta 1.0 Turbo intercoolers are side mounted alongside the radiator and hidden behind a huge crossmember (not good for air flow).Its not a true Front Mount and as we have proved in testing a weak spot on the car when wanting to push power hard from the very small turbo.
Lower Temps and a higher flow rate through this vertical flow cooler are known to add power, so the design team at Pumaspeed broke away from convention with horizontal flow and chose a vertical type core with a massive cross-sectional flow rate to enhance the in time cooling ability.
